During the oxidation process of the SiNWs, since the Au–Si alloy of the tip is confined by the surrounding cylindrical SiO2 layer, the Au–Si alloy can be deformed by the SiO2. As a result, the transformation of the Au tip after oxidationshows different tendency depending on wire diameter (top: small diameter, bottom: large diameter).

The bandgap of two-dimensional (2D) graphene can be tuned by applying chemical modifications such as hydrogenation or fluorination. Metal–oxide–semiconductor field-effect transistors (MOSFETs) employing selectively chemical modified graphene as a channel have been assessed.

A sudden decrease in current, or “kink”, is observed in the current-voltage characteristics of suspended carbon nanotube devices. This anomalous feature is attributed to a threshold optical phonon emission process, through a systematic investigation.

Pt nanocrystals (NCs) with a series of {hkk} high-index facets including {211} and {411} have been successfully synthesized via a solvothermal method. The as-prepared Pt NCs with high-index {hkk} surfaces exhibited much better catalytic activity in the electro-oxidation of ethanol than a commercial Pt/C catalyst or Pt nanocubes with low-index {100} surfaces, and the catalytic activities of Pt crystal facets decreased in the sequence {411}>{211}>{100}.

We show a fabrication method to create oxide nanotubes with a subsurface fluidic connection. The final device will be used to inject molecules into cells pierced by the nanotubes.

A multi-functional graphene oxide–iron oxide hybrid nanocomposite (GO–IONP) has been synthesized and then functionalized by a biocompatible polymer, polyethylene glycol (PEG). The resulting GO–IONP–PEG is biocompatible and can be utilized for magnetically targeted drug delivery, photothermal therapy, and in vivo magnetic resonance imaging of tumor-bearing mice.

Doping nitrogen into pristine lanthanum titanate (La2Ti2O7) nanosheets can narrow the band gap rather than creating localized mid-gap states, which is able to improve the photocatalytic activity of La2Ti2O7 nanosheets under both visible light and ultraviolet light irradiation.
