A monodisperse Ni2+-decorated superparamagnetic nanomaterial has been designed and constructed to selectively bind and purify polyhistidine affinity-tagged proteins from cell lysates in a recyclable process. By changing the divalent metal precursors, various other metal-decorated magnetic particles can be obtained. This approach offers the possibility of constructing metal-decorated nanoparticles through a simple method and will be highly beneficial in further applications of nanoparticle-based technologies.

Wurtzite (WZ)–zinc blende (ZB) single heterostructured GaAs nanowires have been prepared by particle-assisted metal–organic vapor phase epitaxy (MOVPE) growth. Superior crystal quality of the individual segments and the interfacial regions was probed by high resolution transmission electron microscopy as well as the facet evolution of the WZ and ZB segments by scanning transmission electron microscopy high angle annular dark field imaging and scanning electron microscopy. Multiple WZ–ZB heterostructured GaAs nanowires are also presented.
