We show for the first time that hydrophilic molecules undergo to highly structured confinements as compared to hydrophobic ones. We also observe that while the latter promotes dehydration, slowly expelling water molecules from the single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNT) cavity, the hydrophilic confinement reveals a well ordered organization of water molecules and enhances water mobility.

A single-layer MoS2 piezotronic transistor with ballistic transport is proposed in our work. Numerical calculation proves that the ballistic transport in single-layer MoS2 can be modulated by changing external strain.

Amine-modified monodisperse Stöber spheres (NH2-SS) were synthesized with different diameters ranging from 125 to 570 nm to investigate the influence of particle size on plasmid DNA transfection efficiency. NH2-SS with a diameter of 330 nm demonstrated the highest transfection efficiency as compared to other NH2-SS owing to its sufficient binding affinity and high cellular uptake performance.

An enormous positive diamagnetic effect is observed in magneto-photoluminescence spectra when an electron in a wetting layer combines with a hole in a quantum dot, whereas the recombination of electrons and holes in a quantum dot of the coupled system results in an unusual negative diamagnetic effect. The electron wavefunction extent-dependent properties of emitted photons in the wetting layer indicate the coupling between systems of different dimensionality.

Three-dimensional (3D) interconnected fiber networks were fabricated via the in-situ growth of N-doped graphene and carbon nanotubes on electrospun Co-containing carbon nanofibers. The improved electron and mass transfer in these fiber networks resulted in excellent oxygen reduction reaction activity with an onset potential of 0.924 V (vs. reversible hydrogen electrode) and a higher current density than that of Pt/C beyond 0.720 V.

A fancy 3D Pt–WN/CNT-rGO was established by a controllable assembly route and represents a new 3D catalytic platform that shows promise as an electrocatalyst for direct methanol fuel cells (DMFC) as it can catalyze both oxygen reduction reduction (ORR) and methanol oxidation reaction (MOR) in an acidic medium with highly efficient utilization of Pt and good stability.

PX-phase PbTiO3 nanowires with open channels along the length direction show superior long-term cyclic performance and high-rate capability, which is attributed to the formation of a 1D composite structure after initial cycling. This structure exhibits efficient electronic and ionic transportation properties, owing to the abundant presence of Ti3+, during both discharging and charging.
