In this work, we correlated the rational selection of carbon nanoparticles by cancer cells in various stages of the disease to the surface chemistry of the nanoparticles. Understanding the mechanism of interaction of drug carriers with complex cancer cells at different stages of the disease is important. Integration of this knowledge with pathophysiological analysis would promote the development of nanomedicines with superior likelihoods of crossing the endocytic “barrier” for drug delivery.

We report the fabrication of a novel TaOx-based selector with a trapezoidal band structure, obtained by tuning the concentration of defects in the oxide. Salient features such as a high current density (1 MA·cm–2), high selectivity (5 × 104), low off-state current (~10 pA), robust endurance (>1010), self-compliance, and excellent uniformity were successfully achieved.

We introduce an efficient, controllable, and facile two-step synthetic strategy to prepare graphene-based nanocomposites. A series of reduced graphene oxide nanocomposites incorporating Fe3O4 nanocrystals of various sizes were prepared using the new approach. The capacitance of the as-prepared nanocomposites exhibits a strong dependence on their structure, which indicates that excellent electrochemical properties can be obtained by precisely controlling the microstructure of the electrode materials.

Gold nanorings and nanoring arrays with well-defined nanoring quantities, diameters, and spacings were fabricated via colloidal lithography and polymer-assisted Au nanoparticle self-assembly. Three dimensional coaxial gold nanorings and three-dimensional (3D) coaxial gold nanoparticle rings with different diameters were fabricated for the first time.

Sulfur-containing, chevron-type graphene nanoribbons were designed and fabricated from sulfur-substituted oligophenylene monomers via a bottom-up synthetic approach. The graphene nanoribbons are composed of distinct segments with varying band gaps that produce a sequence of quantum dots and thus may be useful in nanoscale optoelectronic applications.
