Upconversion nanoparticles co-doped with 8% Tm in combination with a commercial laser-scanning multiphoton microscopy appeared uniquely suited for labeling biological systems to acquire high-resolution images with the enhanced contrast. Discrete nanoparticles became clearly observable in cells and freshly excised animal tissue of laboratory animals, which represented challenging environment of intense autofluorescence, exogenous staining, and turbidity, as typically occur in intravital imaging.

Co0.85Se hollow spheres constructed by two-dimensional (2D) mesoporous ultrathin nanosheets with high specific surface area (93.2 m2·g−1) were synthesized first time via a one-step and cost effective solvothermal process. Their bifunctional electrocatalytic-supercapacitive properties were obtained simultaneously due to synergistic effects between macroscopic morphological features and microscopic atomic/electronic structure of Co0.85Se.

Highly dispersed palladium nanoparticles (Pd NPs) were immobilized on boron-oxygen (B-O)-functionalized carbon nanospheres (Pd/OB-C), exhibiting significantly improved activity for formic acid dehydrogenation. By adding melamine precursor, OB-C-N product displays a high B content. Pd/OB-C-N shows a superb activity, with a turnover frequency as high as 5,354 h–1 at 323 K.

A self-powered stretchable graphene-ecoflex composite strain sensor based on photo-thermoelectric effect has been fabricated to monitor human activities by detecting current variations. The self-powered strain sensor was implanted in pork for effective strain detection, demonstrating the feasibility of the implantable strain sensing in vivo.
