Carbon nanozymes not only exhibit the physicochemical characteristics of carbon nanomaterials including size, shape, chemical composition, unique optical properties, and large surface area, but also possess enzymatic properties such as peroxidase-like property, catalase-like property, oxidase-like property and superoxide dismutase-like property. Applications of carbon nanomaterials have been greatly expanded by their enzymatic activity, leading to new biomedical applications. This review summarizes the development of chemical modifications and bioconjugate reactions of carbon-based nanozymes, a field of research that holds enormous potential and attracts significant interest in biomedical applications.

A novel class of two-dimensional (2D) MX (M = Be, Mg, Zn and Cd, X = Cl, Br and I) compounds with an unbalanced chemical formula was proposed by using data-driven approaches method and first principles calculations. These compounds harbor Dirac states with ultra-high carrier mobilities that are emerged from the interplay of incomplete charge transfer and hexagonal bipartite lattice. Intrinsically being quantum spin Hall insulators, some members of this family could potential host superconductivity in a highly tunable topological matrix.

We study the generation and transmission of neural signals at different space and time scales based on quantum optics, electrodynamics and other theories. Through theoretical calculations, there are two types of electromagnetic field signals with different time scales in neurons.

The active sites around Fe and Zn atoms in Fe-Zn-N6(III) show the lowest oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) overpotentials of 0.38 and 0.43 V, respectively. And the bridge site of Fe-Zn in Fe-Zn-N5 shows the lowest ηHER of −0.26 V. The existence of Zn element in the Fe-N-C catalysts plays a key role in reducing the ORR activation energy barrier.

In this research, we take advantage of nanoarray as matrix to reveal adaptive ordering and filament change of cytoskeleton, such as chemical polymerization, spatiotemporal distribution, and networking entanglements. And this finding also provides an insight on interplay between cytoskeleton reordering and cancer pathophysiology.

A trioctylphosphine-mediated surface passivation approach is developed to improve the air- and photo-stability of PbS quantum dots (QDs). The prepared PbS QDs possess a lead mono-carboxylate capping motif, which effectively passivates the surface S and renders the QDs stable in air, polymer matrices and light irradiation. Infrared LEDs based on the modified PbS QDs display a slight degradation of only 1.47% after continuous operation in air for 250 h.

Surface functionalisation using deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) and alkyl-polyethylene glycol (PEG) enables transformation of nanoparticles of different sizes, shapes and materials into readily usable plasmonic building blocks for self-assembly. Assemblies across many different classes in high purity incorporating the different building blocks are formed using electrophoresis purification by manipulation of DNA coverage.
