Highly ordered mesoporous carbon–alumina nanocomposites have been synthesized by co-assembly of alumina sol, resol phenol–formaldehyde resin (PF resin), and triblock copolymer Pluronic F127. Both alumina and carbon in the nanocomposite are homogeneously distributed in the walls. A Pt catalyst supported on the new nanocomposite exhibited excellent performance for one-pot cellulose conversion into hexitols.

Pd nanocrystals enclosed by {100} facets with controllable sizes in the range of 6–18 nm were synthesized by manipulating the rate of reduction of the precursor. The size-dependent effect of Pd cubes/bars for CO oxidation was further studied based on these Pd nanocrystals with well-defined {100} facets.

We have prepared highly graphitic nanocarbon (GNC) via wet-air treatment of hydrothermally derived graphitic porous carbon. GNC-450 which is treated at 450 °C showed the highest graphitic degree and electro-catalytic activity in the electro-oxidation of methanol.

Catalysts consisting of Pt nanoparticles dispersed onto silica supports can be stabilized against sintering by covering them with a thin mesoporous silica layer. Subsequent surface-protected etching is used to re-expose the metal to reaction mixtures.
